Miden is designed for building high-performance, private applications such as DeFi, institutional-grade trading, and shared wallets, with the goal of making privacy the default setting. Miden is Edge Blockchain, a zero-knowledge rollup solution focused on high throughput and privacy applications. It was initially incubated by Polygon Labs and became an independent entity in April 2025. Miden prioritizes ZK friendliness over EVM compatibility, allowing applications to scale through public and private transactions. At its core is Miden VM, a STARK-based Turing-complete virtual machine that supports native execution and proof of transactions, pushing computation to the "edge" (user side), thereby rethinking blockchain design.
The core technology of Miden is zero-knowledge rollup, built on Ethereum, using Miden VM to execute transactions. It supports parallel transaction execution and client proofs, emphasizing privacy and high throughput. Unlike traditional blockchains, Miden moves computation to the user side (edge), where users execute and prove transactions locally, submitting only the proofs to the chain.
